Watching him resisting arrest when he had a flat above the launderette! The police came mob handed and had dogs. They smashed the window with him stood behind it and it cut his face to bits. He opened the door with a pan of hot fat, and threw it over them. Then he came out with it to fight them all. It took at least three dogs and a minimum of six bobbies to get him down, and he still wouldn't give in. Finally they got him tied up. When carrying him off I remember a comment made about that was the easy part, and that getting him out the van at Park lane would even harder!
I remember this too. I ahve not seen Alex for years. I will always remember the time when the police come for him. I lived at 52 Burns House and had a great view looking down a his flat over the laundrette. The Police were sliding all over the place when Alex poured fat oil all over the hallway. Mike Stapley. In the late 60s early 70s there was an old woman off Kersal flats who used go down Littleton Roadd asking everybody for cigs. She had the name of Bandy Mary. Bandy Marys husband was known as Aggro Albert. I am sure this man lived in Kersal with his mam and every New Year's Eve he would play. I think that he used to play near Spencer.
