What difficulty should i play metro 2033

I'm new to the game as well and went with Survival - Hardcore. Seems fitting for a post-apocalyptic wasteland. For a first timer: Spartan on Normal. On all Metro games I decided to try ranger hardcore right away, usually I try a new game on easy or normal then proceed to hard, but since this game was focused on stealth stuff, I decided to go for it and I can tell you, it is not as hard as it looks, yeah you can die in a hit sometimes, but if you keep stealth you end up making the whole game without shooting or getting detected human targets only and for the monsters, any shotgun will do a hitkill.
