It has been the most expensive memory combination for this class of memory I have ever seen. DDR2 has all but been classified as dinosaur memory, but still - in , even after two generations of memory has surpassed it - I cannot find it for sale ANYWHERE without the prices just as high as it was when it was new.
Why is it in that DDR2 isn't dirt cheap, dig through the pile at the flea market price??? I'm seriously looking at just throwing my system out and buying another - would be cheaper than the 6 gigs of DDR2 that I've been waiting for to come down in price forever.
SinxarKnights Distinguished. Jan 3, 2, 3 20, Supply and demand. It is actually much more now than when it was new. It is because it is not manufactured anymore and people still want it.
Customers that bring their PC's in are still using very old PCs. Most of them are still running Windows XP, A very small handful has 7 installed and none have anything newer.
Mar 6, 3, 4 21, My guess is that no-one is manufacturing DDR2 anymore, and the merchants that still have it in stock know that if someone really "needs" DDR2, they can get away with charging a premium price, because the options are limited.
Martell Splendid. Oct 26, 3, 3 24, As others mentioned, supply is not being replenished and demand isn't dropping as fast as the remaining supplies. It works perfectly and some pretty good quality modules from OCZ.
There was some new DDR2 from U. Some of the prices some of you posted are higher than the ones I was talking about, lol. I think I mis-posted this, should have been a discussion, not looking for answers. Everywhere Threads This forum This thread. Search Advanced….

Comes with 4Gb memory, thinking about upgrading to 8Gb. OS is Windows Vista Business. I have Windows 7 Home Premium sitting around I can install. Perhaps on new ssd drive Looked at the memory 8Gb and it cost more than the laptop. Why so high now days? Anywhere I can get it cheap? Thank you. Last edited: Aug 23, Jul 2, 5, 1, I've noticed the same thing to. I have an older Turionx2 64 laptop running 3gb and upgrading to 4 is just not a good financial move.
Even the used market seems a little to spendy. Personally I would go with an SSD but it really depends on what you plan to use this machine for. I think you will see a bigger bang per buck performance dropping in an SSD vs. OlafSicky Platinum Member. Feb 25, 2, 0 0. Most old laptops don't take 8 gigs. Just get a nice SSD if you have sata ii in that thing. Oct 4, 1, 3 I doubt you would see much of a difference in most tasks an old laptop is capable of running.
I'm saying not worth it. SSD all the way! Yeah that is kind of what I thought. Will go the direction of the ssd unless a good Samaritan here wants to donate memory or sell it at a low price. The core duo T is 3.
